Taekwondo plays a very important role in my life. Not only has it helped me gain self-confidence and self-discipline, it has challenged me to work harder than I ever thought possible to attain my goals. I have competed in many tournaments, against very talented athletes both Nationally and Internationally, but more important than the medals I've earned, are the relationships I have built and the experiences I have gained. Coaching the younger athletes on our team has been fun and rewarding, especially when they run onto the mats and ask me to help them warm up for a tournament or coach them when they spar. We are a team, oldest to youngest, and have formed a very close-knit Taekwondo family.
I look forward to future Taekwondo competitions in college and hope to join or establish a Taekwondo club when I arrive on campus.
It has been a long road filled with sweat, injury, and anticipation for the chance to compete for a National title. Long hours of training, preparing both physically and mentally, helped me reach my goal of becoming a champion, but just as important, helped me obtain a higher respect for my sport and my competitors.
